An approach to understanding Tool's album Fear Inoculum, by placing it within the context of the band's 34-year-old catalog. This is also an examination of the historical figures and events that the band references along the way (Ponce de Leon, the California gold rush, the Lipan Apache tribe, Etc.), explaining how the 2019 album fits seamlessly into the band's decades-old set of symbols and themes.
The book begins with an analysis of the band's use of typography and classic literature to address these narratives. The second chapter is a meditation on the myths and realities related to Ponce de Leon. Then the third chapter examines the Zepplin-like connection to literature that the band has with Frank Herbert's Dune series.
